Politics & Political Philosophy

I personally have a strong interest in politics and it can be difficult at times to not share political things on this blog.  ‘Why not share’ you might ask?  Well, following politics is not crucial and may actually be antithetical to a spiritually and mentally healthy lifestyle.  Politics is a system of coercion that drains the money and soul from people.  Yes, I know Politics controls the government which “protects” and “serves” the people, but it can only do so by first draining the majority of the people.  Now, whether that’s a boon or a detriment is a philosophical question and worth asking.

So, Politics is not really to be discussed much here but Political Philosophy on the other hand is an important part of the “Philosophy” category that is crucial to a healthy life.  Wikipedia’s first statement about Political Philosophy put’s it better than I:

Political philosophy is the study of such topics as politics, liberty, justice, property, rights, law, and the enforcement of a legal code by authority: what they are, why (or even if) they are needed, what, if anything, makes a government legitimate, what rights and freedoms it should protect and why, what form it should take and why, what the law is, and what duties citizens owe to a legitimate government, if any, and when it may be legitimately overthrown—if ever

These are important questions and topics that all of us should ponder and debate.  It those foundational questions and issues that I would like to discuss on this blog, not the current politicians or laws themselves.  Our ideas about “such topics as … liberty, justice, … rights, … enforcement of a legal code, …” directly effects the way we think and live and thus directly effects our well-being and social capacities, and indirectly our productive ones.  It effects how we view other people, the way to interact on a business level, how we view employment, and a whole host of other important considerations.

In terms of individual laws or people in politics, well I will leave that up to you to decide based on your understanding of the above issues.  You are more than welcome to invite me into a conversation about Political Philosophy, politicians or laws themselves.  I relish and enjoy each and every one of those conversations.

  1. I agree it is a state issue .but it would rqueire a better use of funding on the state level and probably additional federal funding ..of course there is so much waste in the federal budget it would not be hard to find .
